    New to riding rocker
Hey all, I am pretty new to snowboarding and have only ridden rental boards, all camber I think. I just bought my first board, a Thrive Accomplice,a rocker. My question is... Is there a big difference/learning curve to riding a rocker if you are used to cambers? I have only ridden on non backcountry terrain, but I hope that changes someday. I am an intermediate rider but strive to be advanced enough to hit some jumps, pipe, and backcountry powder one day. Thanks for any help

    - the reason you aren't really getting a ton of answers is the questions are preference. Camber, Rocker, Hybrid all offer different riding experiences. Depending on your riding style, one may have more advantages than the other. That being said...a couple of generalizations: Rocker: There are multiple rocker variations, in general they are less catchy, will "feel" softer, an...

Disc Golf - My New Summer Hobby
I'm going to start by saying that up until two weeks ago I had never played disc golf in my life. Toss a frisbee around: sure. Play a little ultimate: why not. Disc Golf: No clue what's going on. So, when Doug asked me if I felt like playing around I thought to myself "why not?". Overall it was a really fun experience and probably one of the more laid back sports that I have ...

Post up your workouts, what you do, etc. Goals, frustrations, achievements... Right now I'm doing crossfit for a month. So far liking the classes since I feel it pushes me and gives me that good kind of sore from a good workout. Hopefully this helps me out when the season starts. I feel like my legs are stronger, more squats!

    - Stickin to my hikes - had a decent hike/free climb over the weekend in Malibu Creek... at one point I had to stop and turn around since there was no more path for a while and I already saw a few rattlers. Was pretty fun though, if you are not following already - http://instagram.com/mackelphip posted some pics there and will start up my hiking shenanigans once again to get back into shape.

    - That's the reason I gave up on Burton product. Their outwear is still decent, but they are so much less rider focused and more about how much money they can make. Big difference even from 10 years ago. And the fact WP uses their crappy LTR setups just adds to that feeling haha

    - I have a newfound respect for people hitting natural transitions and throwing something as simple as a 360. When you get on natural terrain and are able to time hits, it really is impressive. Landing a jump switch in powder has also tought me a few lessons. I've already started watching snowboard films again...it's barely August.

    - since woodward has a patent on their style of parkboard I would be highly surprised if Thrive made a parkboard. Some people have just purchased mountain boards and placed skateboard wheels on them, though they have a higher center of gravity.

    2013-2014 Captain's Log
The season has started so might as well start this! Day 1-3 Northstar! Only a couple of runs open, but their park is on point! A little bit of everything, boxes, rails, and jumps. Surprised they actually had a decent park set up due to the lack of snow in the Tahoe area. Day 4 Squaw Only 1-2 runs open, but I got to go with my roommate. Even though it was only one run open and there was no pa...

    Rome 390 Boss Binding
“Great upgrades for 2014” - I’ve been riding rome 390 bosses for the past 3 seasons and upgraded to the 2014 model at the beginning of this year. I’ve ridden Union Forces, Flux, and Burton Malavitas to compare in that same time frame. Time and time again I kept going back to the 390’s. I’ve never had a pair of bindings that conformed to my boot so well. I attribute it to the customization beyond other bindings. The upgraded ...

Snowboarding is dead, I guess we need to start skiing
http://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/snow-sports/skiing-and-snowboarding/snowboarding/Snowboarding-Is-Screwed.html Interesting read, I don't agree with a lot of it, especially when there are grass roots companies like Thrive or local shops that support snowboarding at all ages and demographics.

    - As a snowboard of 15 years experience and one of an increasing number of 50+ snowboarers, I think that the article speaks half truths and doesn't show a lot of understanding about snowboarding in general. “Ready for Black Ops” - I have owned this hat for a while now, and I have only good things to say of it. It is understated, but still easily identifiable, and stands out from the crowd. The fit is good too, as I have an XL head, and there is still room to extend the hat beyond what fits for me. If you are looking for a new hat then I can definitely recommend this.

    Rome 390 Boss Binding
“More than just a toy. Industrial Strength!” - I think the binding is the perfect balance of performance. The Rome 390 Boss is more than just the average plastic or cheap metal base tray binding. This binding is truly setting the industry standard for build, responsiveness and durability. While the metal heal cup wraps all the way under the foot, it does not make direct contact with the board. The rubber gasket and plastic tray of the 390 Bind...
